Thomas William Harwell Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Thomas William Harwell Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in December 2018 by his family – sister Margaret H. Irvin and brother in-law Howard S. Irvin of Concord, NC. Mr. Thomas William. Harwell was born in Dothan, AL. He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in civil engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps for 21 years. He moved to Greenville, NC in 1969 and worked with a local engineering firm. He later formed his own firm, Carolina Benchmark. He was the town engineer for the Town of Winterville, NC for over 25 years. He died Sept. 25, 2016.

The scholarship will be awarded to students pursuing a degree in the Pre-Engineering Program or to benefit students who are enrolled in courses and preparing for careers in land surveying, drafting, design and/or construction of buildings, planning for building sites, bridges, roads, infrastructure and utilities, structural analysis, or civil engineering. The students must have a 3.0 or higher GPA.
