Edward James Turner Endowed Scholarship

The Edward James Turner Memorial Scholarship was established in December 2018 by Angela Moore, mother of Edward James Turner, in his memory.

Edward James Turner was passionate about music. In 2007, he graduation from JH Rose High School where he served as the Drum Major in the Marching Band. He attended Pitt Community College and was actively involved in music and student organizations. He was one of the founding members of the Next Level Organization, a mentoring program for young, minority men. He also participated in PCC’s Fire Academy and the TRIO Program. he was a member of Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity. He was a student at NC A&T University in Greensboro and worked at a library when he died in a car accident on August 8, 2017. Edward has been described as a “man who loved people,” “a constant helper,” and “someone who everyone wanted to be around.” He never passed up an opportunity to share his beautiful smile. Edward loved Pitt Community College, and his family chose to establish this special scholarship in his memory to support other PCC students’ success.

The scholarship may be awarded annually to deserving PCC students who meet the following criteria:

• Participants in the Minority Male Mentoring Program and a member in the Next Level program.
• Participates in a PCC musical organization or majors in Music.
• Participates in the Student Government Association at PCC.
